Well, it took a little over 9 months, but I finally finished the twin guitars that I made for my sons for Christmas.

They are curly cherry from Steve at Colonial, sitka top, ebony binding, FB, head plate, bridge. Gold MOP inlays, gold frets, gold Schallers with ebony knobs.

This is #2 and #3, and they sound so goooooooood. I can't wait to surprise the boys as they have no idea.

Feel free to tell the truth, as I'm still in the very early learning stage.

Thanks for looking.

Ron

Those are AWESOME. Looks like you can get some work done while you watch your brother's lawn grow!

Ron,

Really nice! Beautiful wood.

Did you build them at the same time, or one after the other?

#2 and #3 !! Quit intimidating us mere mortals!

Absolutely wonderful (and tasteful) work.

I'm sure the boys will appreciate them. (If they don't, the inlay with the name can easily be changed- just pop one in the mail to me!)

John

I hope you don't expect any real critisism on those beauties. Looks like very tight work. No visible "birth defects" that I can see!    Really great gifts.

Hey, that's really nice!

What is the story behind the owl?

Did you do all of the inlay work yourself? The owls are great!

They look great!! Are your sons twins also?

I really like the cherry...it is a great wood that will continue to get redder over time. I know that Martin offers it in one of its models...

I like the owls also...they add just the right touch.

Beautiful job! You must have some really great sons and I'm sure they'll be blown away. Curious about the zero fret. Do you like the way it works/sounds? Would you do another zero fret? I've been thinking of trying it on my next build.

Nope, these are for my sons. Matt, 29 years old, and Jeff, 26 years old. I have two grand daughters by Matt.

Thanks, Shane. The newbies here won't know about the reference to my brother's lawn , but I thank you for remembering.

Wow, guys, I appreciate the response.

Wayne, I built them at the same time.

Arnt, the owl is part of our family crest, for the name "Wisdom".

Donovan, I did not cut the pearl, it was Andy DePaul. Though I had to cut a couple of replacement pieces that I sanded through the gold on.

Bob Long, nut and saddle and pins are black water buffalo horn. Not as hard as bone, but what I wanted for this overall look.

Shawn, my sons are NOT twins.

Bob K., I do like the zero fret, however, I haven't tried one without it yet. This makes three using it. I went that way because my old Alvarez Yairi has it.

Again thanks to everyone's kind words. I'm really thrilled with how good they turned out. Still need to get better at finishing, but I did improve over my first build.

Ron
Mr. Wisdom (my friend):

These are some of the finest looking guitars produced by OLFers this year.

Although Lacey and I agree that the labor to deliver these twins must have been fairly painful the results make it worth it and then some.

If I was to tell you what I like about the twins, and I will, I would have to make a list because there are many things that I like about these guitars.

1) The inlays, both the owl and the names are just over the top when it comes to creating a gift with great personal meaning.

2) I have always liked your bridge shape and it looks just as cool on the twins.

3) The cherry wood is something that I have wondered about building with and now, after seeing yours, I know I want to build with it too.

4) The use of ebony binding with a simple piece of ebony binding for the back strip is very cool and suits the cherry in contrast without over powering it very well indeed.

5) The use of black in many places including what may be black horn for the nut and saddle works great in pulling it all together too.

6) Your headstock shape, like your bridge, is one of the nicest shapes that I have seen.

7) Your peghead logo looks great too and the size is perfect.

Most of all though, like the guitar that Serge built for his mom, these were built with great love for some very special guys I am sure. This alone makes these some of the finest gutiars on the planet!

Superb execution, design, craftsmanship, and intentions Ron!!
Hesh, my wonderful "near northern" friend. (Serge is a "far northern" friend). Thanks for all the fine words. The nut, saddle, and pins are indeed, buffalo horn.

That headstock shape is different from my first. It actually came from a picture one of Kinkeads guitars in his book. I'm not sure whether I'll use it again or keep it unique just for these two guitars.

I certainly appreciate all that you said.

Ron

Looks grea Ron. Looks like you've been busy since our little get together. Hope to see some more if we have another get together. Mine are coming kind of slow . Maybe I'll have more time this winter.

Wow Ron, what an incredible thing to do for your two boys.

Its hard to add anything that has not already been said above about how fine these guitars look, so I just have to agree with it all. The twins are spectacular, the inlay is sooo classy and there is just so much to like about what you have done here well done my friend (from waaaaay up north ).

Your boys will be bowled over, please take a few happy snaps to share with us at the moment of presentation. Once again, well done

Cheers

Kim

Number 2 and 3? Step back ... !!!

They are wonderful looking. I love the headstock treatment.

In honesty, I don't like any bridges I've seen that tend to turn down rather than up. Just me.

I'm sure you'll have two happy and amazed customers on your hands.
